Welcome ! |

In 1982, the Ministry established the Environmental Information System during the 6th Five-Year Plan as a Plan |
| |
Scheme for environmental information collection, collation, storage, retrieval and dissemination to policy planners, |
| |
decision makers, scientists and environmentalists, researchers, academicians and other stakeholders. |
| |
There are 76 ENVIS Centres all over India, which include: 29 in State Government Departments, dealing with the |
| |
Status of Environment and Related Issues of the concerned state and 47 on various environmental disciplines |
| |
related to pollution, biodiversity, waste managements, ecosystems, etc. We belong to the latter group. |
| |
|
 |
|
For all the 76 Centres, Ministry itself is the Focal Point which ensures the functioning of the individual centres and |
 |
|
directs their functions towards the common ultimate goal – save the environment. Our Centre was started in 1992, |

The place where the river meets the Sea or Ocean is called Estuary. It connects us to the sea and ocean. It is used for transportation, fishing and it plays an important role in recreation. |
Unique evergreen woody plants thriving in the intertidal salt marshes and brackish waters of estuaries and lagoons along the coasts in the tropical and subtropical latitudes are called mangroves. |
Corals are small (sea anemone-like) colony-forming marine invertebrate animals from the class Anthozoa of phylum Cnidaria. They are without the head and are radially symmetrical. |
Has brackish water with large variation in salinity (0.5–35 ppt). Sediment here is rich in nutrients. Has unique fauna – fishes, crabs, shrimps, mollusks, etc. |
